Travel Required: Yes. Job Duties: This vacancy is being announced at two different classifications (Retirement Services Specialist Senior and Retirement Services Specialist Principal). The final classification and compensation will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications. This position exists to provide professional retirement counseling to stakeholders, either by phone, face to face or in writing, by identifying options and strategies that will meet their financial goals and needs, and help them understand the value of retirement planning specific to MSRS benefits. In addition, the incumbent in this position will perform retirement calculations, which may include conducting any research necessary to perform the calculations correctly. Minimum Qualifications: Four years’ experience administering or counseling defined contribution plan or defined benefit plan (pension) participants and/or customer service experience where the primary focus of the job is providing information to participants on retirement program and benefit interpretations. A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, human resources, or a related field may substitute for 1 year of experience. *Candidates must demonstrate the ability to think analytically, interpret law and legal opinions, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, set priorities, work independently, and to demonstrate math, customer service and computer skills. In addition to the above, you will be required to: *Pass a written basic skill assessment covering math, table & chart interpretations, grammar, reading comprehension, and public relations. Upon passing the basic skills assessment you may be invited for an experience based interview; *Hold a FINRA Series 6 & 63 license and Minnesota Life Accident and Health Insurance license; *Hold a valid Class D Driver’s license; and *Pass a background check which may include employment verification, reference, and criminal background check. Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Preferred Qualifications: *Work experience in a defined contribution or defined benefit retirement plan. *Basic financial planning principles. *Financial and investment expertise including investment options, risk/ reward models, monthly investment option performance returns, defined contribution plans including but not limited to 457 (b), 403(b), 401(k) IRAs.
