CNA Certifed Nursing Assistant The Certified Nursing Assistants primary task is to provide routine daily ADL (Activities of Daily Living) care to assigned residents in accordance with West Wind Villages established nursing care procedures and as many be directed by supervisors. Qualifications: NAR - verification of inclusion of Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry must be obtained. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language to communicate effectively with residents and staff. Must complete a Criminal Background Form and receive a not disqualified criminal background result from the Department of Human Services. Must be compassionate toward the elderly, infirmed or handicapped and work with tact and ethical awareness. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must possess the ability to prioritize and organize work efficiently to accomplish workload within scheduled shift.CNA Job responsibilities and Essential Functions: Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Communicate information concerning a resident's condition. Maintain consistent attendance and be on time for shift duty. Ability to exercise patience and tact with residents, family and staff. Report all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, computer, and etc. in an informative and descriptive manner. Report all accidents and incidents you observe on the shift when they occur. Report all changes in the resident's condition to the Charge/Staff Nurse as soon as practical. Ensure that the residents room is ready for receiving the resident including making the resident comfortable, checking that all the residents possessions are marked, storing residents clothing, and assisting the resident with packing when needed. Notify the facility when you will be late or absent from work Help create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Meet with your shifts nursing personnel when reporting for duty and when reporting off at the end of your shift, to assist in identifying and correcting areas of resident need. Answer signal lights, bells or intercom system promptly to determine residents need, responds to resident requests, and places signal light within residents reach. Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake/output as directed. Completes PROM/ROM exercises to residents on an exercise program. Applies or assists residents with the use of hearing aids and glasses. Provides nursing care as outlined in resident care plan. Completes all paperwork and computer charting as required or requested in a legible and timely manner. Demonstrates and performs proper body mechanics when transporting or assisting residents to walk using the transfer belt. Assembles and uses such equipment as hydraulic lift, hoyer lift, weight scales, safety devices and other equipment as needed to care for residents. Promotes independence of residents by offering choices and fostering self-help skills. Understands and follows the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy and reporting procedure and is aware of and adheres to Resident Bill of Rights. Demonstrates and uses Standard Precautions in accordance with established procedures. Demonstrates and practices correct sterilization techniques such as hand washing, proper handling of supplies, cleansing and sanitizing equipment per policy and procedure. Must attend in services and complete 12 hours of in service education per year to maintain Minnesota nursing assistant registration. Participates in resident care conferences and other facility meetings as required. Must follow facility dress code and wear name tag at all times.
